Laura Van Duren was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1959. She received her B.F.A. with an emphasis in painting and illustration from Carnegie Mellon University. In finding her niche as an artist she has worked as a graphic designer, an art school teacher and a public health illustrator in Kenya and Costa Rica.

Laura has been working with clay for the past 20 years. Her body of work is primary figurative with an interplay of houses, boats and ladders. Recently, she has been exploring the possibility of combining clay and metal together. This interest has led her to start learning how to work in bronze and iron.

Her work can be seen in the gallery pages or at Art-Scape Gallery in Walnut Creek, where she is currently represented. She lives in Lafayette, California, with her husband and three children.
